Canadian start-up Electra Meccanica Vehicles Corp’s Solo is the answer for a simple yet affordable little all-electric commuter car. The car is designed for city dwellers and commuters in mind. This eco-friendly electric car is a one seater, hence the name Solo. The battery pack that powers this Solo EV is a 16.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, which gives the Solo up to 100 miles (160km) in driving range. Expect about 3 hours get the battery get fully charged using a 220V power source (charging time is double that with a 110V).
The Canadian company boasts that their EV will be hoot to drive. This little three-wheeled EV will be easy to maneuver and park in a crowded city. The curb weight will be just under 1,000lbs. Top speed is roughly 80mph (130km/h) and it will have a 0-60mph in 8 secs. At this speed the car is eligible in some states to be driven in HOV lanes on the highways.
The Solo EV does not skimp on convenience. This affordable electric car will have all the amenities you come to expect from a car, such as keyless entry, power windows and locks, backup camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and optional AC. There is also 10 cubic feet of trunk space behind the driver.
Electra Meccanica is currently taking reservations for their affordable electric car with a $250 refundable deposit. The Solo’s prices start at $15,500, though state tax credits may drop the price down several thousand dollars. Deliveries are expected to begin towards the end of 2018.
