Retro Buses: Peoria Citylink’s 1975 GMC Fishbowl

Operating as Citylink, Greater Peoria Mass Transit District was created in 1970. Before the name Citylink, it was known as GPTransit. Bus number 1206 is a 1975 GMC   model bus with a Detroit Diesel 6V71N engine mated with an Allison V730 transmission. This bus was bought brand new by the Greater Peoria Mass Transit District (GPTransit) in 1975. It ran until the mid-90s and was retired from fixed route service. Since then it has been preserved for the future generations to see how far we have come. Citylink now brings out this fishbowl for special occasions and community events such as local parades or Stuff the Bus during the Christmas holiday season.

In April 2016, Citylink brought out 1206 and the Motor Bus Society had the opportunity to ride and capture the history of number 1206 GMC T6H-4523A during their Spring convention. It certainly was the one of the highlights of the convention. Citylink once had a variety of buses in the fleet with TMC RTS (ex-CTA’s RTS once roamed the streets of Peoria too), Gillig Phantoms (bought new by Citylink and ex-Duluth DTA buses). Now they’re just running Gillig Low Floors.
