Tesla teased a few new photos of its next generation all-electric Roadster. The latest images show a white Roadster parked outside a fancy home, another shows the stylish curves in red, and another image of a Roadster taking curves on a mountain road. Tesla claims its Roadster takes 1.9 seconds to hit 0-60mph, which is definitely faster than many supercars. Tesla CEO Elon Musk hinted that there are plans to improve performance figures with “rocket thruster tech.”
Koenigsegg’s boss, Christian von Koenigsegg has taken note. “We kind of had our future mapped out, and then we heard about the new Tesla Roadster and its insane acceleration numbers, and we thought ‘damn that’s put the gauntlet down,” he said. Koenigsegg also mentioned that Tesla’s Roadster performance figures will put internal combustion supercars to shame.
“We thought, ‘this is not OK.’ We wondered whether it was possible, and yeah, it’s possible,” he added. “Then we thought, ‘OK how do we deal with it? This is embarrassing,” Koenigsegg stated.
Now Koenigsegg is planning to go head to head with the Tesla Roadster by combining direct-drive with hybridization and free-valve engine technology, “in a peculiar layout” to its own upcoming supercar.
